The Great Escape was painted in 2005 during my divorce. It’s pretty apparent that there’s a big bad wolf in the picture and a redheaded woman is frantically getting away. I found myself unintentionally painting this dream that corresponded with a psychic reading that I’d had earlier in the year.
I dreamed I was in a house with my husband. It was in another life time and he was holding me hostage. I left him and ran to a neighbor’s house. I saw him pick up a stick of firewood to go after me and the look in his eye gave me chills. He found me, brought me back and cut the phone cords and locked me inside. I realized that I was a hostage in my own home. I found another way out and again he brought me back. The third time I found my way to a large warehouse with a garage door that opened into a warm room with only women artists pursuing their creativity. I knew he would never find me there.
The psychic said that husband and I had done this same dance over many lifetimes. He rescued me from terrible situations and I made him happy in exchange for taking care of me. In previous lifetimes he had beaten me in order to keep me from leaving or to punish me for trying to get away. In earlier lifetimes, society didn’t support women who were on their own and life was dangerous on the streets. This time, however, I was going to get away and be on my own.
During my divorce, DreamScape painting gave me valuable insight into the areas of my life that remained hidden. It gave me an outlet for my emotions and I gained the added value by illustrating and my inner world. When everything was the most bleak, a brush lifted my spirits and my soul was given a voice to transcend the current and past lifetimes that I chose to experience.
