DreamScape Soul Portrait- Session #1
In this series, you will witness my client, Jolene, stepping on the higher pathway to personal choice, shedding the over-giver skin, without guilt and feeling her way to freedom and independence as a new identity. She is learning that she has a choice and a voice and it feels mighty good.
Jolene has given me permission to use her soul portrait as a case study in my Transformational Arts coaching program, Finding the Goddess Within. A Soul portrait is a channeled DreamScape Painting that identifies limiting patterns, stellar strengths, gifts and talents. Targeted coaching helps reverse negative patterns, balance scattered energy and establish a more authentic expression of the individual.
Jolene first came to see me for a reading last summer (Read blog: The Signs Are All Around You) and was a bit exasperated from doing EVERYTHING for her daughters. It wasn’t hard to see that she is a natural caregiver but she had developed a pattern of over-giving as a result of a chronic dysfunctional pattern from her past. Consequently, she has chronically attracted negative male energy her entire life. She is just beginning to become aware that she has choices and is losing interest in just going along with what others want, meeting their needs at the expense of her own, and rolling over just to keep the peace.
However, keeping the peace and doing for everyone else keeps the truth, (authenticity) underground. But eventually, the pressure of trying to push it down becomes too much and it must be released, for the discomfort of living a lie (telling yourself untruths about yourself – denying your own needs) becomes too much. So here she is, stepping into a new future, single, becoming more confident about her ability to take care of herself, loving her independence and not needing to be in a relationship, at present.

Here is the allegory in her DreamScape Soul Portrait explained.
Everything in a dream, with few exceptions, represents an aspect of the dreamer.
In this first DreamScape there are three aspects of the feminine that are coming into view. The adult, the inner child, and the personality (ego). Each of these aspects have a specific role and contain the information that she needs to bring them into balance.
The adult self is shown in left profile; her eyes and forehead darkened as if she’s wearing a blindfold.
If you are blindfolded in a dream you are trying to avoid acknowledging something that you know is true but that you do not want to accept.
Wearing a blindfold in a dream and then having it removed can signify “opening your eyes” or “seeing things in a new way.” If the blindfold is removed, it can mean that the dreamer has attained new knowledge, developed a new perspective, or reached a higher level of spirituality.
Our goal in coaching is for Jolene to learn new awareness and skills so that her inner vision is restored to the truth about who she really is so she will no longer be “blinded to who she really is.
A whirlwind means conflict or emotional turmoil from the effects of a past trauma.
There is a white whirlwind emanating from the solar plexus of the adult self. A whirlwind means conflict or emotional turmoil from the effects of a past trauma. It looked to me like a whirlwind with stool on the end. (I felt ridiculous relating this to Jolene but here’s what she said about it. Jolene said she had chronic intestinal disorders she had as a child who suffered from abuse at the hands of someone she trusted – her father. It was more than she could “stomach.”
It also appears as though the whirlwind morphs into a baby swaddled in a blanket that adult Jolene is cradling. This is the caregiving aspect of her but there can be no mistake that some care needs to be given to her inner child.
The face of the goddess is transposed against a dark, shadowy, profile of a man which is the representation of negative male energy – her father.
The father archetype partially represents how we feel about our capability to be creative and productive in our world. The masculine idealizes protection and strength and knowing how to maneuver in the world. The positive expression of the father archetype is about the willingness to be a shelter in the storms of life.
The negative father archetype involves an authoritarian abuse of the power and an unemotional relationship. The negative expression involves the use of the child as an object for the father’s own ends, having no concern for the child’s needs. The most negative and egregious expression of this negative male archetype is engaging in a sexual relationship with the child which is what happened to Jolene. She has had a lot of counseling around this.
Just below her left shoulder is a young girl that is barely visible but Jolene recognized her immediately as her inner child and had been wanting her back. She even has the long hair that Jolene had as a child.
4. Personality (Ego)
The personality is the expression of the conscious mind, its beliefs and reactions. In other words, it’s how we think, feel and act. Jolene’s ego is represented in her DreamScape by a woman running. She has her left arm extended and it’s pointing the way. Her right hand is grabbing the hand of the goddess, trying to lead her away……….far away. Is she running to or from something? Jolene says she’s “Running from emotions. When I feel them coming up I immediately stuff them down.”
Ego is the outward expression of thoughts and beliefs that have resulted from events in our lives where we’ve made meaning out of them about ourselves. It is not who we really are. The opposite of ego is the heart, as shown by the higher energies of the goddess. Ego has learned to survive but the soul is more interested in thriving, abundance, prosperity and fabulous relationships.
Beauty, attractiveness and strength of character. Hair is connected to thought both conscious and unconscious. Her hair twists out of her head like a tornado
Tornados in a dream means that you are struggling against your emotions and almost always involve worry and anxiety. Hair relates to thought so what are you thinking about that is causing you to spin out of control? I think this illustrates Jolene’s triggered flight response when confronted by difficult emotions. She checks out. Avoids. Denies.
Her ego is sandwiched between two sleeping dogs. Find out what that means in Shedding the Over-Giver Skin – Part 2.
6. The Divine Feminine
The mystery unfolds………..
See how this DreamScape shapes up and becomes more defined as the Dreamer expands into her truth in the next session Shedding the Over-Giver Skin – Part 2
